Epuni Baptist Church has a heart for the surrounding community. We reach out to it in a number of ways:
We are involved with Epuni School in several ways. We meet in their school hall fortnightly as a congregation for worship and fellowship, we help with their breakfast club and provide a school chaplaincy service. Being involved with the breakfast club allows relationships to be formed as well as the comforting knowledge that we are helping kids start their day with a full tummy, ready to learn. The school chaplain is someone who cares for the school community (which includes students, staff and parents) in a pastoral way, spending time listening and helping with strategies to work through difficulties.
A number of our people are part of the Epuni/ Fairfield Community Group which is working to encourage community-led development. This is a partnership between Epuni School, our church, the ReMakery, Kainga Ora and Hutt City Council.
From time to time we provide food from our food bank or bank of prepared meals to people in need in the community.
The EBC Community Fund is distributed each year to support projects both locally and further afield.
Some of our members have formed a knitting group where we get together to knit squares for blankets and baby garments. These are then given away to people connected to our church community and to Greenstone Doors, an organisation which looks after pregnant women and their babies.
We are excited for the future when we redevelop our site and provide buildings that can be used by and for the community.
Please get in touch with us if you would like support, or to find out how you can get involved with this ministry.
